Day 11 Lake Placid

Today we got up early and drove to lake Placid and Saranac Lake to see the fall colors. The drive there and around the lakes was unbelievable. The colors can't be descibed in words or photos. This again is something someone needs to see in person.

Driving to Lake Placid, we visited the Olympic Ski Jump venue. The height of the jumps is unbelievable. We got to take the chair lift to the base of the jump tower and then took the elevator to the top of the jump tower. When you see the ski jumping on TV you have no idea just how high they start. The tallest jump is 120 meters or about 400 feet.

Dug did a good job of keepin the rift raft animals away.

Just as we were leaving, we got to see an olympic jumper practicing on the 90 meter hill. He made it look soooo easy that I thought, yea I can do that, or not.

Dug seen here posing for photos after win in the 2 meter jump. Fortunatly for him he was the only competor.

This is a panorama of fall colors along to the road to Lake Placid.

These are some of the houses that line Saranac Lake.

Here is a view of the valley from atop the 120 meter olympic ski jump. Million dollar plus homes dot the countryside.
