Day 14

Still raining off and on but we decided to see the sights anyway. Along the drive to our first stop, we were treated again to the fall colors along the way. We took many photos but only a few came out good enough to post.

Keep those wonderful comments coming.....anyone.....anyone...Bueller....Bueller?

The country side along the drive to the Maple Farms Factory.

Our first stop was at the "Maple Grove Farms" Maple Syrup Factory. We learned a lot about how they make the maple syrup from the maple tree sap. It takes 48 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of syrup. Now we know why it's so expensive. We did buy on small bottle of pure maple syrup to try with some pancakes in the next few days.
Here is a giant container of Maple Syrup outside the factory. I have no idea why they would sell such a big container.

Some of the old equipment used in distilling Maple tree sap into syrup.

Our second stop was at the world famous "Ben & Jerry's" Ice Cream Factory. We went on a tour of the factory (that was not working today) and learned how they make the stuff. They produce about 250,000 pints a day out of this facility. At the end, we were treated to a new flavor called "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" Ice Cream. It was vanilla with a salty carmel swirl and chocolate coated potato chips.

On our way back to camp, we decided to take the advice of a local and drive to "Smugglers Notch". This is an old trail that winds through a tight mountain pass used by cattle rustlers in the late 1800's. There is a small road there now that you can drive over. The roads were lined with colorful trees that covered the road like a canopy. It was a great drive and well worth it.

Beautiful colors driving down the backside of Smugglers Notch.
